SPACE IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR SUMMER IMMERSION CAMPS 2008
Cheryl has designed summer camp immersion programs in both French, Spanish & World Cultures for ages 7-11. The focus of the camps are culture and conversation.
These unique camp experiences take children around the world to explore culture through language, music, food, crafts, and history. Daily activities include conversation and language skills in target language, an activity typical to the "Country of the Day", and students prepare their own morning snack, something traditional and yummy from the "Country of the Day". Tuition includes all materials, drinks and snacks. All artifacts created are taken home at the end of the week.

Camp hours run 8:30AM-12:30PM  Mon.-Fri.  Each program is for one week.

Teacher/Student Workshops

Need something new  to get students pumped up about world cultures? Want to bring the culture rich nations around the world into your classroom?  These unique HANDS - ON workshops can be offered to your World Language Dept. Staff or Cheryl will bring the workshops to your students right in their classroom.

Native Arts & Crafts from French and Spanish speaking countries around the world are not only fun but educational and can be integrated into your curriculum. These workshops will also connect to the National and/or State of NH Standards Guidelines for Language Learners K-16.

Cheryl has presented many of these workshops throughout New England.  Through her travels and research, Cheryl has developed a presentation of these arts and crafts that truly bring the culture of many nations right to your doorstep.  Connecting to many specific curriculum units, students are interested, active and walk away with a better understanding of many foreign cultures that connect to the World Language they are studying.

Cheryl presented a sample of this workshop at the Northeast (NECTFL)2002 Conference in Washington, DC. In spring 2005 Cheryl presented  a 3 hour cultural arts workshop at the NECTFL Conference in New York City, NY for which she was selected by proposal entry.

Workshops generally run 2-3 hours. Students and teachers keep all samples made and will also receive a materials and costs list for each art/craft presented. Standards included in each activity will also be discussed.  Back to Top of Page

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Preparation

Mazel Tov! This is such a special time in the life of a Bar/Bat Mitzvah student and their family.  Cheryl will prepare each student to read their designated Shabbat Haftorah and also read from Torah itself. Not only are students trained to chant  Haftorah and Torah tropes, they also learn many of the traditional blessings, prayers, and hymns that are an important part of the Shabbat service.

Trained by Rabbi David H. Mark of Temple Israel, Portsmouth, NH, Cheryl has worked with many seacoast pre-teens to prepare them for this special day.  She has also worked with several special needs students who would like to have a bar/bat mitzvah yet need attention given to learning styles and transliteration.

A member of Temple Israel since 1991, Cheryl frequently assists the Rabbi and other trained members in leading Shabbat and High Holiday services.

Preparation for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah ranges from 6 months to a year depending on the students’ religious education and ability to read Hebrew.   Click here to read a recommendation from Rabbi David H. Mark  Back to Top of Page
